Reflecting on his experience as President of the Orbit Engineering Expo in 2022, Er. Ashutosh Karn highlights the significant challenges and lessons learned while leading a national-level engineering event. “It was an honor to serve as President during Orbit Engineering Expo 2022,” he begins, “but it also pushed me to grow in new ways.” In his role, Ashutosh was tasked with overseeing the performance of his team, ensuring they had the resources and motivation needed to execute their tasks effectively. His leadership was grounded in the understanding that every team member, from volunteers to core organizers, needed to feel supported and empowered to contribute their best.
Hospitality for VIPs was a particularly important aspect of his role. Ashutosh coordinated closely with high-profile guests, ensuring their experience at the event was seamless and professionally managed. “Managing the event while sitting on stage, surrounded by dignitaries, felt like navigating a maze under a spotlight,” he recalls. Despite the challenges, his experience taught him the value of a strong, dedicated team. “With a committed team, no challenge is too big.”
Throughout the event, Ashutosh honed essential skills in team management, financial planning, systematic event organization, and task prioritization. These lessons, he says, have had a lasting impact, not just in his professional life but in his personal growth as well. “The skills I learned in team and financial management, as well as organizing activities systematically, have been incredibly valuable in my journey since then.”
The support of Sagarmatha Engineering College and Sagarmatha College of Science and Technology played a crucial role in the success of the 2022 expo. “From the very beginning, they provided us with the guidance and resources we needed to make the event a success,” Ashutosh notes. Now, in 2024, both institutions are again playing a pivotal role, serving as title sponsors and providing the venue for the upcoming international edition of the Orbit Engineering Expo 2.0.
As the President of the 2024 Expo, Ashutosh is committed to taking the event to new heights. “This year, we’re aiming to make the expo even bigger, larger, and truly global in scale,” he says. His focus is on ensuring that all stakeholders—team members, sponsors, participants, and visitors—experience the same level of excellence that defined the 2022 edition. He’s confident that the event will leave a lasting impact on the engineering community and beyond.
Under Ashutosh’s leadership, the 2024 Orbit Engineering Expo promises to be a landmark event, showcasing innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence on an international stage.
